$1 1888 PCGS MS65
Easily an MS65+. The surfaces are super clean, smooth, and boldly lusterous (for an 1888). Both sidesa re a creamy/snowy white. Miss Liberty and the details are well struck and have light frost. The eye appeal is excellent!

$1 1888O NGC MS65
GORGEOUS COLORS!
Sold on
12/2009
From time to time we will but colored Morgans. We're old school and we only buy REAL color-not what some people want you to think is color. That's why we have not handled many colored dollars in the past few years.
This is not a date famous for color. We believe this is tissue paper color vs bag toning. First, the technical quality of this GEM is all there and then some. The surfaces are nearly flawless and are illuminated by a full booming luster. Miss Liberty and the details are fully struck. Both sides have a killer kaleidoscope of colors. Starting at the rims and blending inward you have: electric violet/gold/purple/pale blue colors. You eyes will LOVE the look!

$1 1888O PCGS MS64 SONNIER COLELCTION
A MULTICOLORED MONSTER!
Sold on
04/2010
SONNIER COLLECTION (not on the holder). Except for the Sunnywood/Simspon coin, we have NEVER seen any 88O even remotely close to this coin. The colors mimic some of the wildly toned 82S's we have seen. This coin is totally mindblowing!
The ONLY negative we could find is a small area of weakness in Miss Liberty's hair above the ear and some softness on the Eagle breast. if this coin had been struck just a little better, it would easily break the bank and be worth $25,000.00!!!!!!
This is one of the few coins we rank the colors MS69! The obverse has a streaky partial bag toned (the dots are tiny and white) mix of the wildest colors to be found on any Morgan. Electric reds/greens/violets/blues/ambers/golds mix together so powerfully you won't be able to get your jaw up from the locked position its will get stuck in. A monster full booming luster adds to the colors. There are NO visible impairments. On the reverse, the rims are gold w/a hint of violet. Everything about this coin is mind blowing!

$1 1888O PCGS MS65
FULLY COLORED!
Sold on
03/2010
EX BRIAN SONNIER COLLECTION (not labeled). Its VERY rare to find later O Mints with original color.
The obverse has beautiful colors of aqua blue/aqua green/gold/pale purple that cover everything. You can see small traces of the burlap bag by the trunk of the neck. A strong luster reveals no major problems (just a few teenie ticks) and shows off the gorgeous colors. Miss Liberty and the details are exceptionally struck and have light frost. Of course the eye appeal is amazing! Opportunity knocks so colorfully here!

$1 1888O PCGS MS65DMPL
ULTRA DEEP MIRRORS!
Sold on
01/2010
WOW! The last one of these we have handled was back in late 2004! Not as easy to find as the pops my suggest!
This coin is the real deal DMPL. Both sides have full 8" deep and highlight reflective mirrors. TINY ticks are visible-and are acceptable since the mirrors are so deep and this is just a 65. A light hint of purple/gold can be detected around 12:00 on the obverse. Miss Liberty and the details are thickly frosted a creamy white and are fully struck. Her check is clean and is totally original. Keep in mind, an 1888O does not come as smooth or clean as a 1880S. The eye appeal is tremendous!
PCGS 58, NGC 27, CAC 3. PCGS has graded only 4 coins higher. The last one to sell in major auction brought $2,530.00 09/08 Heritage.

$1 1889 PCGS MS-65 DMPL
DEEPLY MIRRORED!
Sold on
08/2008
If this coin had just a little more contrast, it probably would be worth $25,000.00! The mirrors are a full 8"+ deep and have amazing clarity for the date (there is a faint hint of milkiness). This is highly unusual for an 1889. There are just a few trivial teenie ticks scattered about-none that affect the grade (this definitely is NOT a 64 in a 65 holder). Miss Liberty and the details are well struck (you can see hints of a rusted rev die). There is a decent amount of silvery frost visible. The overall eye appeal is great. We do NOT believe the current pops are correct. This is not a date you see often in GEM DMPL. PCGS 31, NGC 14. CAC is extra critical about what DMPL's it stickers-and this one made it easily!

VERY solid for the grade! Both sides have very few ticks-which are VERY teenie. A strong luster enhances creamy white surfaces. Miss Liberty and the details are exceptionally struck and have light frost. The eye appeal is wonderful!

$1 1889 PCGS MS65 SUNNYWOOD/SIMPSON
RAINBOW CRESCENT COLORS!
Sold on
04/2010
SUNNYWOOD/SIMPSON COLLECTION. Until last year, this was the 1889 in the collection. It was replaced with a beautiful higher graded coin, but this has by far the wilder colors! We have NEVER EVER seen another 1889 with colors like this!
To start, this coin is in the new Secure Plus holder. We do agree with PCGS that the technical quality is average (we can see a few teenie ticks scattered about). However, we grade the colors MS69 and +++!!! To us, eye appeal DOES count for something!
When mother nature sat down to do this coin up, she wanted it be totally crazy-it has WILD colors on BOTH sides! The obverse has an electric rainbow (like you see on 81S) on 1/4 of the left side. The colors are deep violet/neon green/navy/gold. The centers are a lighter pale green. On the reverse, there is also a thin crescent. Those colors are neon violet/green/gold/blue. They blend into phenomenal baby blue centers. We promise, you will NEVER see another 1889 like this! If one exists, we'd LOVE to buy it!
If this coin were in a major auction, we could see a full blown bidding war that lasts days erupting! This coin is posted at our BEST price!

GORGEOUS GOLD OBVERSE!
Sold on
03/2009
Not a date we see with pretty colors very often.
The obverse only has beautiful splashes of gold/golden brown/amber colors swirling about. The centers and the reverse are a creamy white. Both sides are extremely clean overall. A full booming luster makes the color stand out. Miss Liberty and the details are frosty and have sharp strikes. Her cheek is clean. This coin definitely has NOT been messed with. The eye appeal is awesome!
