$1 1884CC PCGS MS66 DMPL
A REAL BLASTY ULTRA CAMEO!
Sold on
09/2009
Sadly, Morgan Dollars have been one of the most abused areas of gradeflation over the past several years. Not only have regular MS pieces been hit, but we've never seen more NON DMPL's being called DMPL's during that time. Fortunately, the crazy days are over. We doubt you'll see many more flimsy DMPL's ever graded.
Full 8"++ mirrors are crystal clear, VERY clean, and have powerful reflectivity. When you tilt the coin, the mirrors shine is so strong they do appear "jet blacK" (that is a term for those who do nto know). Miss Liberty and the details are what you would expect from a monster DMPL, fully struck and heavily frosted a bold snow white. This is NOT an MS65 in a 66 holder. When viewing this coin you MUST wear sunglasses! The eye appeal is most memorable too.
PCGS 106, NGC 47, CAC 4.
Fact: the majority of MS66 DMPL's are leaving the US. The Japanese have been loading up with them for the past 5 years or so-and NONE come back home! All they care about are the mirrors and the frost-they really do not know much about if the coin is really a 66. So do NOT expect to see many offered as time goes on. And, definitely do NOT expect to see many with CAC stickers (CAC has "old fashion" standards on DMPL's). Until you've been to 4-5 major shows, you will have no idea how bad MS65 and higher DMPL's can come. Opportunity DOES knock loud and hard here!

CRYSTAL CLEAR MIRRORS!
Sold on
02/2010
These have been very hard to locate. As we have reported, for the past few years they were being bought up and sent to Japan (yes Japan). They wanted only full deeply mirrored gems.
This coin is fabulous! Both sides have full 8" mirrors that are crystal clear, have very few teenie ticks (it looks clean overall), looks glassy, and have powerful reflectivity. Miss Liberty and the details are frosted a snowy white. He cheek is definitely unmessed with. ALL of the details are fully struck. This coin did not have rusted dies. The eye appeal is like the quality-fabulous!
PCGS 109, NGC 52, CAC 6. PCGS has graded only 3 coins higher. The last one of these to sell in a major auction brought $3,737.50 1/10 Heritage. This is not the typical drecky DMPL that has been left on the market! The pickiest buyer WILL love this coin!

$1 1884O PCGS MS65 SONNIER COLLECTION
AMAZING TISSUE PAPER TONING!
Sold on
03/2010
SONNIER COLLECTION. While virtually identical to the other MS65 we have posted, this coins colors are far more dramatic.
Only using a strong glass can any ticks be detected. the overall technical quality is solid MS65. A super strong luster really brings out the colors.
This coin is pure eye candy. We think Bryan must have searched years to find a coin like this. In pir opinion, the colors grade MS67.8! The obverse is covered with electric block like formations of gold/violet/navy/baby blue/pink colors. The reverse is white with a hint of gold by the right rims. Your jaw will drop when you see this coin!
This coin is posted at our BEST price. It had been in a capital holder with the other 2 tissue paper toned 84O's we have listed.

$1 1884O PCGS MS65 SONNIER COLLECTION
GOLD/RED BURLAP BAG TEXTILE TONING!
Sold on
04/2010
SONNIER COLLECTION (not on the holder). This coin has the same pattern as another 84O listed, but its colors are flip flopped.
Bold burlap bag toning dots cover pretty much the entire obverse. The colors are a satiny gold/red/violet with a faint hint of blue/green patches by the rims. A full booming luster makes this a memorable piece. We grade the colors MS67.7. We grade the technical quality of the coin solid. A few light scuffs are visible, but nothing takes away from the grade or the colors. Miss Liberty and the details are frosty and have sharp strikes. If you love burlap bag textile toning, this coin is for you!

A KILLER BLACK AND WHITE CAMEOED GEM!
Sold on
12/2008
For the longest time this year we thought all the cool and flashy DMPL's were gone off the face of the earth. Finally, with this coin we break our months long drought.
Close your eyes and picture a GEM black and white DMPL. That's what this is! The mirrors are 8"++ and have just a few trivial scattered ticks (and one grease spot at 4:00 on the obverse). They are also clear and have bold reflectivity. Miss Liberty and the details are fully struck and have heavy snow white frosting. Her cheek definitely is clean and original. The eye appeal will make you say WOW over and over! PCGS 50, NGC 23. Housed in an older green tag holder.

$1 1884O PCGS MS66 SONNIER COLLECTION
AN EXCEPTIONAL TISSUE PAPERED GEM!
Sold on
04/2010
SONNIER COLLECTION. This is the FINEST of the 3 1884O's we have posted. ALL three were stored int he same Capital holder.
No question this coins quality is solid MS66. Even using a strong glass, marks are held to a minimum. Miss Liberty and the details are very well struck.
We rank the colors MS67. The intensity of the luster really makes the colors stand out. The obverse has neat box like formations of amber/gold/violet/pale lime/baby blue/soft purple colors. This is not a look you find too often.
