  VERY CHOICE!
Sold on 10/2009
An exceptionally rare and undervalued date in choice and higher condition.

Seldom do we encounter totally original examples of the early 40's dates that are so choice and original. A surprising strong enhances a beautiful mix of golden brown/blue/pale purple colors that are evenly spread across both sides. Only if you use a strong glass can you find any smallish ticks-they are not really visible to the naked eye. For identification purposes, there is a small toning dot in the left obverse field. The eye appeal of this coin is fabulous!

The great rarity of these in choice and higher is unquestioned. PCGS 5, NGC 7 WITH NONE HIGHER AT EITHER SERVICE! CAC 3. If a PCGS MS65 CAC were ever made, we'd gladly pay OVER $100,000.00 for it!

$1 1801 PCGS AU55
  A PLEASING QUALITY COIN!
Sold on 03/2010
We have not handled an AU55 1801 $1 in over 10+ years! In fact, our fav grade (AU58) the last one of those we handled was back in 2005. Its so hard to find decent Bust coins.

This coin has a tremendous luster-which is something 1801's are not famous for. Possibly it was dipped long ago -but has come back super nice (its hard to tell, but we want to be safe). The possible dipping has NOTHING to do with the luster. Dipping is NOT a negative-and many Bust coins have been dipped. Its harsher cleaning or over dipping that becomes problematic. The surfaces have just a few lines and tiny ticks. Miss Liberty and the details are well struck and do stand out. This coin DOES have tremendous eye appeal. Take our word on this, CAC is NOT going to sticker a junky Bust Dollar-they LOVE Bust Dollars and are major buyers of them.

PCGS 9, NGC 16, CAC 1. This is a VERY difficult date to find in GEM AU and higher. PCGS has graded only 22 coins higher. Again, this is a really nice 1801!

The last one of these to appear in major public auction sold for $14,950.00 02/09 Goldberg. A so/so coin sold for $12,075.00 Heritage 1/09. In 2008, one sold for $18,400.00 Heritage 10/08. if you have been looking for a really nice 1801, we suggest you check this coin out in person!

  A CHOICE OLD FRIEND!
Sold on 12/2009
Legend is pleased to own again an old friend-the beautiful and VERY choice 1801 $1 PCGS AU58 Ex Flannagan. The last time we owned this coin was almost 15 years ago. We had placed it in our friend Phil Flannagan's Complete Bust Dollar set (sold by B+M in 1999). Now its time to place it in a new home.

Most impressive about this coin is everything it is NOT. It is NOT scrubbed up or messed with (CAC is notoriously strict). Both sides have a neat original color combo of golden brown/russet/purple. You can clearly see the extremely clean surfaces. A surprising amount of original luster remains. Miss Liberty and the details are well struck and do standout. The eye appeal is exceptional too!

PCGS 17, NGC 19, CAC 1. According to our records, the last one to sell in major auction brought $25,875.00 10/05 B+M. We bought this coin right and since we are not an auction, we'll sell it to you right.

  WOW!
Sold on 03/2010
We LOVE these big beautiful coins, especially when they are true GEMs like this!

Only a few very minor abrasions/ticks are visible (they actually blend in when you turn the coin). Overall, the coin appears clean and lightly semi-prooflike. A full booming luster shows off creamy white surfaces. Miss Liberty and the details are heavily frosted and have full strikes. The eye appeal is phenomenal!

We can not stress enough how rare and undervalued these are in GEM. Legend is a major market maker in them and will pay stronger money than anyone for any PCGS /CAC stickered coins. We are angry because published bids do NOT reflect what it takes to buy one of these because so few trade.

PCGS 6, NGC 8, CAC 4. Note: PCGS has graded one coin higher-the MS66 that is in our Legend Collection-the finest MS Seated Dollar set ever assembled. And we paid well into six figures a few years ago for that coin! Opportunity knocks loud here.

$1 1871 PCGS PR64 CAMEO
  STUNNING!
Sold on 01/2010
Far superior to many PR64 and even PR65's we have seen!

Only some light lines keep this coin from full GEM status. Incredibly reflective mirrors grab your immediate attention. A gorgeous blend of moderate navy/purple colors start at the rim and open into white blasty centers. Miss Liberty and the details are frosted and have full strikes. Not a dull coin. The eye appeal is lively and stunning!

Only 960 minted. PCGS 8, NGC 6, CAC 7. PCGS has graded NO PR65's and only 2 PR's. The last PR64 Cameo to appear in a major auction sold for $7,475.00 09/08 Heritage. Opportunity knocks loud here!

$1 1866 PCGS PR63 DCAMEO
  KILLER EYE APPEAL!
Sold on 03/2010
The pops are wrong for this coin-we actually cracked it and resubmitted it 3x seeking an PR64DC!!!! Yes, 3X!!! We think it is a PR64. Obviously the gods at PCGS have held the line and said NO!

We believe its just light and scattered hairlines that are keeping this wild coin from a 64 DCameo designation. The lines are NOT bothersome to the naked eye. The mirrors are ultra deep, have tremendous clarity, there are NO visible problems, and of course have the ultimate in reflectivity. They were NOT dipped out. A jaw dropping ring of electric royal blue frames the rims only and opens into a light violet ring then white centers. Miss Liberty and the details are heavily frosted and have full strikes. This coin is eye popping-not just eye appealing!

Only 625 pieces were ever minted. PCGS 6 (remember this is 3 of the 6), NGC 1, CAC 1. This monster also represents one of the rare times a coin possibly is worth more OUT of the holder! A must see if you love ORIGINAL killer proofs.

$1 1873 SEATED PCGS MS65+
  A STUNNING GEM!
Sold on 06/2010
Yes, this coin has been designated a + by PCGS in their new grading system! Having assembled the all time finest MS Seated Dollar Collection, we know how these should come. This coin is definitely all there and then some-and BOTH PCGS and CAC fully agree!

Strong quality. Smooth yet shimmering surfaces are original (vs dipped out). The intense luster shows off virtually no marks. Some light golden brown color frames the stars on the obverse and some of the letters on the reverse. Miss Liberty and the details are frosty and have full strikes. The eye appeal is fantastic!

PCGS 5, NGC 4, CAC 4. The last one to appear in major public auction sold for $63,250.00 in 1/2009 Heritage. The lone MS66 is impounded in our FINEST EVER MS Seated Dollar Collection. GEM MS Seated Dollars are still underpriced.

  SENSATIONAL!
Sold on 07/2010
Having assembled the all time finest collection of MS Seated Dollars we know exactly how rare they really are. Even a date you might consider a "Type" coin is still rare in GEM.

This is a big beautiful white GEM. There are a few trivial teenie tick son the right obverse, otherwise, the details are all very clean and smooth. A strong luster shows off the beautiful creamy white surfaces. Miss Liberty and the details are frosty and have full strikes. The eye appeal is sensational!

PCGS 8, NGC 6, CAC 5. The only coin PCGS has graded higher is impounded in our FINEST EVER set. We have not seen ANY other PCSG MS65 CAC No Motto Seated Dollars for sale in the past year. We can not stress enough how rare these really are. The published prices do not mean anything. Legend Numismatics also wants to buy EVERY PCGS/CAC MS that's available.

  HIGH END!
Sold on 06/2010
This is a "no brainer" high end coin. It stood out in the dealers box!

Only a few LIGHT and wispy lines keep this coin from a full PR65 designation. The mirrors are deep, clear, clean, and have powerful reflectivity. A gorgeous band of reddish gold/auburn frames the rims only. Miss Liberty and the details are frosted and fully struck. We do think this coin is also a near miss cameo. The eye appeal is sensational!

Only 800 coins were minted. PCGS 43, NGC 41, CAC 4. We have definitely seen PR65's not as nice!

  SUPERB PLUS!
Sold on 05/2010
WOW! This is a shimmering totally original and gorgeous GEM!

Incredible "ice" like mirrors are clear, clean (just a few light hidden lines), and have strong reflectivity. A light to moderate layer of champagne/lavender (NOT dull) evenly covers the surfaces. Miss Liberty and the details are heavily frosted in a lavender color and are fully struck. The eye appeal is exceptional!

PCGS 17, NGC 3, CAC 4. According to our records, the last one of these sold in major auction brought $6,038.00 02/08 Goldberg. This is NOT a date or grade you see with any frequency.
